After watching the emergence of food trucks transform the food and culture of Los Angeles, it is no mystery why these tantalizing meals on wheels have been the biggest phenomenon since boba and fro yo. The fact is, each new truck that hits the road presents a new "have you tried..?" question that most people in LA tend to bring up after hearing about or trying a new novelty. Once the hype is created, part of the allure is the chase to find the truck that offers the desired dance on your taste buds because these trucks are always on the go.
I can go on and on about the huge following and tracking system that has been created to navigate the food truck world, but that would require an entire post of its own. One of the great things about LA though, is that it has a variety of events that allow a number of trucks to come together so that visitors can have a taste of multiple food truck offerings without hunting each of them down. I was excited to go to an event at LA State Historic Park before I left for New York. A VIP ticket allowed me to lounge in a VIP tent with hand crafted cocktails, enjoy music from a number of bands, browse through various booths selling handmade jewelery and clothes, and, of course, eat from all sorts of food trucks. The scene was lively, the food was good, and my excitement was not dissappointed.
A field of food trucks awaited our arrival
But before hitting the trucks.. we had tasty drinks compliments of moonshine
The cocktails were deliciously infused with blueberry puree, ginger, basil, and/or lemonade
Two tacos and a jarrito soda for only 1.69! A special promotion put on by GAP from the Pico de Gap Taco Truck

George demonstrates how to eat tacos

Garlic parmesan potato on a stick! From Tornado Potato!
they make a lot of money from selling pretty potatoes

We tried a lot of other trucks and tacos.. but some trucks were definitely better than others. Make sure to choose wisely and read reviews before chasing after any truck you see on the road.
On another note, I am no longer in LA but have been in New York for the past week! I am on my journey toward an MPH!! I am really excited and had my first day of class today after a week of orientation and alot of what feels like a long vacation. Too much good food has been eaten and too much fun has happened. I have failed to capture most of it on my camera due to the busyness of the city that keeps making me forget! I am determined to get back on track and will try to post more often.
Good Bye LA and Hello New York!
Stella!! good luck in New York! I miss you already! keep the posts coming!
